Veteran charged with identity theft in California

Regardless of the type of charges against you, a criminal investigation can be both emotionally taxing and damaging to your reputation. Even if you are innocent of the allegations laid against you, you may face a lengthy inquiry, negative media attention and even suspension from your job. However, a charge does not guarantee a conviction, so it is vital to remain calm and focus on your defense.

In California, a retired Air Force officer faces charges relating to fraud and identity theft.

The 42-year-old retired senior master sergeant has been accused of stealing Government Travel Charge Cards from other service members. The purported thefts are believed to have taken place at a number of military installations in the San Diego area, to which the accused had access as a result of his status as a military retiree. It is alleged that the man targeted unattended belongings that had been left while their owners were working out.

More than 30 such thefts are thought to have occurred and the thefts are believed to have included the acquisition of personal details such as social security numbers. The man is accused of having used the allegedly stolen Government Travel Charge Cards to make upwards of $20,000 in cash advances and purchases.

The man faces aggravated identity theft, bank fraud and wire fraud charges. If convicted, he could face severe legal repercussions. Furthermore, this former officer’s credibility may suffer significant damage during the course of the proceedings.
