A paroled murderer is sentenced for Orange County bank robbery

A paroled, convicted murderer that had been released from lockup by the California State Prison System in May of 2015, was sentenced on Friday, July 14, 2017 for his role in carrying out a robbery earlier this year. The Orange County man had been previously found guilty in May 2017 on a number of charges including assault with a firearm and second-degree robbery.

At the time of his release on his original murder charge, the defendant in this case had already spent more than 20 years in jail for that crime. His original second-degree murder conviction dated back to 1995. During his trial that year, he was accused of having led police on a high-speed police chase. Back then, he struck another motorist head-on as he attempted to flee, killing the other driver in the process.

While it's unclear as to how long his sentence in that case was supposed to have lasted, a California Parole Review Board agreed to release the man by May of 2015. Four months following his release from state prison, the man once again found himself in trouble with the law. He stood accused of having entered a Lake Forest credit union with a gun in tow.

He pulled the gun on Orange County bank employees and ordered them to hand over all the cash on the premises. After that, he fled the scene in a stolen car. He led police on a high-speed chase through Orange County before finally being detained in Tustin.

The man had been found guilty of the accused crimes in May. At his sentencing, the 54-year-old man found out he will be spending the next 44 years in the custody of California State Prison officials once again. This time, it's highly unlikely that he'll ever be released again, especially since he's accused on having violated the conditions of his parole in his previous case.
