Drug charges are a serious business and can wreck a career at any level. Just recently, Southern California law enforcement made a splash in international news when they arrested the attorney general of a state in Mexico as he entered the country near San Diego. The charges claim that the attorney general was attempting to smuggle various drugs across the border, including methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin, over a period of several years.

Certainly, this is a narrative with a great amount of intrigue. It is not everyday that a government official is accused of participating actively in drug trade. It is still unknown what the prosecution may ask for in punishment, but whatever the result, it may be devastating for the man. One can imagine just how difficult or deadly any kind of jail time may be after operating as a prosecuting attorney.

It is likely common knowledge at this point that drug charges, especially those that indicate intent to sell or distribute drugs, carry fairly harsh punishments. In most cases, those convicted of drug charges face at least some jail time, which has produced the most overcrowded prison system of any developed country.

If you are facing drug charges, you must act immediately to protect your future. Every single minute that you wait to begin building a strong defense is a minute that the state has to build a case against you, possibly putting you behind bars for years and making it very difficult to live a normal life on the other side. With the guidance of an experienced attorney, you can build strong defense to protect your future and keep your rights secure.
