Man arrested in Orange County, California, car burglaries

Breaking and entering into cars is a relatively common crime that rarely nets a suspect, and most people who have items stolen from their cars do not see their property again. However, police in Garden Grove believe they may have good news for hundreds of victims of car theft in Los Alamitos and neighboring burgs over the last few years after they discovered a "wall-to-wall" treasure trove of stolen goods found in a suspect's home. The police noticed a common pattern in auto burglary cases beginning two years ago, when a white Range Rover was reported in the area around the time of each theft. Finally, a witness was able to note the license number of the vehicle, and a visit to the home of the car's owner revealed hundreds of stolen items, including laptops, cell phones, a handgun, more than 100 California licenses and almost $10,000 in cash along with other items.

Cell phone solves Chula Vista robbery case

After a home invasion in which robbery suspects threatened a man with a gun and fired the weapons into a bedroom where his wife was sleeping, police traced the suspects through a cell phone that was stolen along with other items from the home. The robbery occurred about 1:30 in the morning with the homeowner, his wife and their small child in the residence.Police said the resident was approached by two suspects as he left his garage. One of the perpetrators pointed the gun at him and told him to lay on the ground. The two ransacked the man's garage and allegedly fired a shot through the wall that entered the bedroom where the suspect's wife lay sleeping. The suspects fled with several items, including the man's cell phone.

Man suspected of burglary in Atascadero

A man suspected of burglary in Templeton was arrested when police found him hiding in a riverbed after investigating reports of burglary involving a man wearing camouflage and carrying a machete. Authorities discovered that a local home had been burglarized and began a search for the suspect. The California Highway Patrol helicopter provided support while the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's deputies, assisted by K-9 units, conducted the search. He was found in a riverbed at the side of Highway 101 in Atascadero and was armed with a hunting knife. He surrendered the weapon after police gave him a command to drop it. The suspect was arrested for being under the influence. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if the burglary was also perpetrated by the suspect. Charges have not been filed.

Traffic stop leads to arrest for stolen electronics

A traffic stop in Fountain Valley for speeding led to the arrest of three men on theft charges. Early in the morning, a policeman saw the men leaving a Fullerton business complex in a car. No businesses in the complex were open at that time, and there had been recent burglaries in the area.
