California man due in court for $1.5 million fraud

A California man is due in court for a preliminary hearing on fraud charges related to his alleged theft of $1.5 million from 26 victims. According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, the man used his company, Dana Island Yacht Sales and Charters, to conduct the scheme. They allege that he offered a number of false investment opportunities such as the purchase of boats for resales but he never invested the money he received.

Man charged under suspicion of harming child

In a situation that many California parents might relate to, a man was kept him from his daughter for months while the family searched for answers for why he was charged with second-degree harm to a child, a felony offense. The Dallas father had taken the baby to a local medical center for treatment because he heard a pop when he was changing her diaper. Medical personnel performed X-rays and found that the child had multiple fractures.

2 taken into custody after alleged drug deal

Law enforcement officials in California took two men into custody on various drug charges after observing at a distance what appeared to them to be a drug deal. Upon further investigation, the Santa Clarita officers discovered that the vehicle one of the men was in had been reported stolen. That man faces multiple charges, including one for drug possession.

California ambulance company accused of Medicare fraud

The Department of Justice has accused the owners and employees of Alpha Ambulance Inc. of participating in Medicare fraud. The ambulance service, which focused primarily on providing non-emergency transportation to patients who needed a ride to and from medical treatments, allegedly was paid $13 million by Medicare over a 4-year period. The charges against Alpha Ambulance came as a result of a nationwide effort by the federal Medicare Fraud Strike Force to reduce Medicare fraud.
