In California, being found with illegal drugs is a serious matter and one that can lead to weighty consequences. However, it is all too easy to be connected with controlled substances that are not yours. For example if drugs are found in your car or home, officers may assume that they are yours, or that you at least knew about them. However, the reality may be that you had no idea they were there.
In Salinas, officers searched the home of a 47-year-old man. The individual in question was allegedly arrested on previous warrants related to the sale of narcotics. The search warrant issued for the investigation was also connected with narcotics sales. However, officers are believed to have entered the property using tactical gear in case anyone within was armed.
The search is believed to have extended to a car. It is also reported that a number of hydrocodone and methadone pills had been found at the home of the man?s girlfriend. Investigators have suggested that they were stored there by the suspect. While the warrant for his arrest is said to have been 10 years old, if convicted of the charges to which it relates, he could face serious penalties, including heavy fines or a prison sentence.
If you have been arrested on suspicion of involvement with a drug-related offense, it is important to act quickly. A good defense could greatly improve your chances of avoiding conviction or negotiating a lighter sentence, yet this can be difficult to achieve when under the pressure of an investigation. Fortunately, an attorney may be able to help you with your case and advise you about the best course of action to take.
