Woman accused of being madame of brothel in Irvine apartment

A 41-year-old woman is accused of being the madame of a brothel that she is allegedly running out of her apartment located in the upscale part of Irvine, California. She faces felony counts of pimping and pandering that carries a maximum of six years in state prison if convicted of the charges.

Video allegedly shows mail theft

On May 9, a 24-year-old Riverside woman was arraigned in Superior Court on charges related to identity theft and selling or transferring a credit card with the intent to defraud. The woman plead not guilty to both theft charges. She is scheduled for another court appearance on August 2. Her attorney did not respond to a telephone call from the media seeking comment.

Bay Area paralegal faces mail fraud charges

A Bay Area paralegal pleaded guilty to embezzling from her former employer, tax evasion, and mail fraud. She told a federal court that between 2006 and 2011, she settled claims and stole retainer fees. Neither the law firm nor its clients were aware she was doing this, nor were they aware that she had set up a bogus company in order to correspond with and steal from clients. She admitted to defrauding the law firm and its clients out of $327,795.05.

Medical center owner pleads guilty to fraud

On June 28, the owner of Fountain Valley Healthcare Center in Orange County was scheduled to appear in court to plead guilty to several criminal charges. The man was indicted by a grand jury on federal charges in March, 2011. The government claims that the accused man submitted false reimbursement requests to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, obtaining more than three quarters of a million dollars in funds to which he was not entitled.
